Anatomy programme
I am pleased to announce details of the forthcoming RCPSG 09/10 Anatomy Programme being held in the Department of Anatomy, University of Glasgow.  These will run on Wednesday afternoons between 27 January – 24 March 2010. The Anatomy Sessions are for those in early years of training.  They are appropriate for those at all stages of preparation for MRCS examinations but will also be useful to doctors in other specialties where knowledge of anatomy is important. The sessions will include comprehensive revision and access to a wide range of anatomical prosections and will be fully interactive. Places are limited; therefore early application is advised (maximum 30 places).  The programme will only go ahead if a minimum of 20 delegates register. Places can be reserved by completing and returning the registration form with appropriate payment, or by booking online via the College’s website

Undergraduate Surgical Conference
The first Undergraduate Surgical Conference is on November 21st 2009 at the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow.  Delegates will have the opportunity to hear from leading surgeons and to present poster presentations on surgical topics.  The event has proved very popular, with medical students and FY1s booking out the conference 3 months in advance from deaneries across the UK. The programme is here. The website here!

Android

I have become fairly convinced about the utility and value of the iPhone with all the various applications which are readily available. However – here is a new idea.Android! It’s all in the Google Cloud. Android phones don’t sync with your computer. That’s because they don’t have to: Your contacts, calendar and mail are all kept up in the great Googleyplex. Check it out.

Glasgow South Campus

New Glasgow South Campus Hospitals plans. The NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde site has been adding information about the major plans for hospital redevelopment on the campus at the current Southern General Hospital site. It looks impressive and the projected timeline for completion by the 1st quarter of 2015 appears ambitious. The architects impressions are interesting.

Electrosurgical safety

Here is a good resource. An online monograph on the features of electrosurgical theory and practice can be accessed here.Understand capacitive coupling? This is designed to explain the essential principles of one of the most widely utilised technologies available to surgeons, emphasising clinical efficacy and patient safety.

Till next month
