Camtasia or Screenflow
Here are two very interesting applications. With ScreenFlow you can record whatever happens on your screen. then edit it into a polished video and share it in a presentation, webstream or any number of video outputs. Similarly Camtasia Studio allows you to produce HD-quality videos for the web and mobile devices. No tweaks or technospeak, just clear video with compact file sizes. Excellent - expensive for the full version but try the free demo.
Transplanted arms
Farmer Karl Merk, who lost his arms in a 2002 combine harvester accident, demonstrated the progress he has made by scratching the back of his head with his right hand and squeezing rubber discs at a news conference near his home in southern Germany. In July 2008 he underwent a 15-hour transplant at the Munich University Clinic by a team of 40 doctors, nurses and anaesthetists. See the BMJ article (2008;337:a1162).
The BMA on working time
Despite the fact that the surgical community has been complaining for many months about the damaging effect the new regulations will have on training, continuity and service delivery and despite the evidence presented to show the risks, the BMA were resolute in belittling the likely effects. Interesting and ironic that the August 1st issue of BMA News carries the headline story about "serious concerns" they have now developed concerning how ready the NHS really is for the new arrangements. They further claim to have a raft of ideas to minimise the damaging effects on training. Excuse me for being cynical but this is too little and way too late!
