Great resources
I have no doubt that many of you will be called upon from time to time to prepare and present material of clinical interest. There is also no doubt that presentations can be considerably enhanced by good quality illustrative material. Here are a couple of sites which provide excellent examples of the kind of resources which are freely available on the Internet.

For laparoscopic surgery WebSurg has a large number of videos, webcasts and interviews.

If you need good quality pathology images there are many sites from which to choose, but one of the best is Webpath.

MTAS and MMC fatigue
If ever there was a time to shift the focus from the present recruitment difficulties that time is surely now! Here are a couple of suggested diversions for you. Many of you will be well aware of the an amazing contribution made to anatomy and surgery by John Hunter who was born near East Kilbride in 1728. Wendy Moore has written an excellent book about Hunter's life and times. Why not pick up a copy of the Knife Man from Amazon; it really is an excellent read.

I am sure, we have all worked with colleagues who have dropped medical eponyms into the conversation. Nowadays, the reality is that one does not have to be a polymath or historian to call on the necessary resources. Why not pick your favourite eponyms here and find some additional biographical background to boot.

New perspectives
One of the duties which I have as Vice President - Surgical is to become involved in many of the new projects which are being concocted within our college. You will already have been contacted in connection with some of the new member benefits which are being developed. There are also some exciting plans related to the William and Elizabeth Davies Trust and I hope to be able to bring you more details next month.

Next month I also plan to bring you some additional details for the surgical training specialty sites which have not featured so far.

Finally, I previously featured some aerial photography resulting from the outdoor pursuits of one Glasgow clinician. For a contrasting perspective why not click the image on the left and enjoy more of Scotland is an amazing natural beauty.

Keep in touch. Until next month.
