John McGregor and Ian Colquhoun will take over in Exams as Director and Deputy Director respectively and Roy Scott has been appointed Director of Surgical Education. Special thanks are due to the sterling work and contributions of their predecessors, respectively, John Drury, Marc Bransby-Zachary and Graham Sunderland.

Gruesome gallery

Leech jars, early attempts at reconstructive surgery and nerve-jangling surgical instruments are going online in a Science Museum display. The 2,500 items will illustrate stories such as experiments being carried out on prisoners in Ancient Greece. Brought to Life: Exploring the History of Medicine will include items from a Wellcome Trust collection, many being seen by the public for the first time.
